Activities - June 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has meant cancellation of all of our in-person classes for the month of June.

We are very fortunate that George Steele has been part of the Landis family for over 20 years.
George loves Landis, and we love him back.

Thanks to modern technology, George is still able to bring the magic of most of his scheduled classes to us. George will be streaming all of the classes that lend themselves to an online presentation on Facebook! Of course, as soon as we are given the okay to resume normal programming, George's classes be live again! Check our website and Facebook page for updates.

George has begun streaming already. You can enjoy George's Sounds of Spring Night Walk here. He will be posting notice of classes in advance both on his own Facebook page at Facebook.com/george.j.steele, and on our Facebook page at Facebook.com/LandisArb/.

George will be streaming these Landis classes:
  • Herp Walk on Saturday, June 20,
  • Pond Ecology on Saturday, July 11,
  • How Trees Grow and Tree ID Workshop on Sunday, August 16,
  • Insect Study on August 29 (all from 2:00 to 3:30 PM),
  • Full Moon Night Walk on Saturday, October 10, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, and
  • Annual Halloween Owl Prowl on Friday, October 30, from 7:00 to 9:30 PM.
If the dates or times don't work for you, the classes will remain accessible on our Facebook page. We appreciate funding from Stewart's Holiday Match grant program that helps us fund George's work at Landis.

George is streaming other great things on his Facebook page at facebook.com/george.j.steele. Currently, he is providing daily updates on a chick incubation project; start here for the first day of that project. George also reads books for kids (and some of us kids at heart), and provides other terrific content to keep us going during the pandemic.

Don't forget that although Landis' buildings are closed due to the pandemic, our grounds remain open for socially distanced walkers, hikers, or runners, free to all from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year.  Stay safe and stay well!
